Over on Peach Pundit “landman” asks:
“The pressing question in this Primary,as sad as it is to say is HOW DID WE GET OURSELVES IN A POSITION TO HAVE SUCH A WEAK OVERALL FIELD?”

Laziness? Hubris? No one who would be worth a damn wants the job? To become a credible candidate you have to suck at the teat of lobbyists, rent seekers and big government nannys? The fact that with a war going on, and liberal entitlement programs about to bankrupt the government, people care more about who fathered the slut’s baby than who will be our next President?

Maybe its because our leaders make up bullshit issues like Global Warming, Gay Marriage or liquids on planes, rather than talking about real issues that can’t be reduced to a sound bite the average voter (or third grader) can understand.

Argh!!!!!

Lower the flags to half mast, the skanky hoe is dead.

One of the idiots on 96.1 or 99x was saying how sad it was since she just had a kid. Actually, it is probably the best thing to happen to the kid. Now there is a slight chance he’ll have a normal life.

I suppose this kind of stupid overreaction is what we should expect from a city that keeps re-electing a murderous sot to the US Senate every 6 years.

I’m tempted to have 100,000 post cards of Ignignokt flipping the bird mailed to the mayor of Boston. But I’d probably be arrested for making terroristic threats.

You people are F–king stupid!

Here is a text book example of how the Main Stream Media really sucks at informing the American people. Read this article on Presidental Blunders.

Now tell me, what steps could Buchannan have taken to avert the Civil War? How could Madison have kept us out of the War of 1812? In fact, we won the War of 1812 and proved our ability to be an independent state. Was getting into that war a bad thing?

What were the consequences of the Embargo Act of 1803? What makes it so great a blunder to out rank Andrew “Justice Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!” Jackson’s genocide of the Cheerokee Indians in the Trail of Tears?

That CNN article doesn’t even bother to link to the conference, the report or anything with more information.

Speaking of things that need to be wiped from the face of the Earth.

Stevens, Young and little Murkowski need to go. Stevens has been in the Senate since 1968. Don Young since 1973. Lisa Murkowski was named Senator by her father when he left the position to be Governor of Alaska. The first two are poster children for Term Limits (either a constitutional amendment or a Vince Flynn novel, either is fine by me). The latter is nepotism run amok. They are a disgrace to this nation, the state of Alaska and the Republican Party.

I wonder how many American service men and women will die due to lack of equipment while these scum bags spend our tax dollars on their pork and lobbying schemes.

Man kills three daughters in Pakistan (link)

[The mother] recounted how she was awakened by a shriek as Ahmed put his hand to the mouth of his stepdaughter, Muqadas, and cut her throat with a machete. She said she looked on helplessly from the corner of the room as he then killed the three girls — Bano, 8, Sumaira, 7, and Humaira, 4 — pausing between the slayings to brandish the bloodstained knife at his wife, warning her not to intervene or raise alarm….

“I thought the younger girls would do what their eldest sister had done, so they should be eliminated,” he said, his hands cuffed, his face unshaven. “We are poor people and we have nothing else to protect but our honor.”

Islam must have one fucked up definition of “honor” if slaughtering a four year old girl is needed to protect it!

This is not a very good way to convince me that we shouldn’t wipe that culture and religion from the face of the earth by whatever means necessary.

Parents vs the Childless?

Detroit Times on restaurants and coffee houses discouraging children. (sorry its google cache)

One parent remarks, “I think that the mothers who allow their kids to run around and scream, that’s wrong, but kids scream and there is nothing you can do about it. What are we supposed to do, not enjoy ourselves at a cafe?”

YES! Your misbehaved brat is ruining the enjoyment of the other customers.

“You go to a coffee shop or a bakery for a rest, to relax, and that you would have to worry the whole time about your child doing something that children do”

Yes, you go to a coffee shop to rest and relax. As do most other people. Guess what? Screaming kids make it hard to relax.

Tradition has always been that buildings and monuments are named after great deceased people. I think this should be codified in a new Constitutional Amendment:

Section 1.No building, monument or public work shall be named in honor of a living individual currently or previously serving as a President, Vice President, Representative, Cabinet Official, Senator or other Elected Official.
Section 2. The People shall have the right to remedy violations of this article by terminating any living President, Vice President, Representative, Cabinet Official, Senator or other Elected Official to whom a building, monument or public work is named for.

Inspired by this bit of idiocy

Mr. President,

You want us to trust you that Harriet Miers will make a good Associate Justice of the Supreme Court? I’m sorry Mr. President, you’ve lost my trust.

  • I trusted you to win the peace in Iraq, but you failed to supply enough troops to do the job.
  • I trusted you to reduce the size of the deficit, but you’ve sat watch over the largest budget increase since LBJ.
  • I trusted you when you wanted to reorganize the federal government to better respond to terrorists and disasters, but the Dept of Homeland Security failed miserably and actively hindered private efforts in responding to Katrina.
  • I trusted you to be a good steward of our Constitution, but you’ve detained American Citizens without trial or habeas corpus, signed a campaign finance bill you said was unconstitutional, pushed for and signed laws that eviscerate the 4th Amendment, and prosecuted cases which have make a mockery of states rights.
  • I trusted you to veto pork-ridden spending bills, but you haven’t.
  • I trusted you to use our Law Enforcement wisely to protect the citizenry, but you’ve decided porn is more dangerous than terrorists.
  • I trusted you to further the GOP revolution of 1994, but instead of abolishing the Dept of Education – you’ve expanded it.
  • I trusted you to not expand the welfare state, but you not only signed, but actively pushed, the Prescription Drug benefit.
  • I trusted you to execute the Doctrine of Preemption – something I support wholeheartedly, but you failed to make the grand strategic case, relying on WMDs and “Saddam is a bad man” as your arguments for war.
  • Finally, I trusted you to put good, qualified people in charge of vital government agencies, and guess what? You failed us again.

Mr. President, I fear your legacy will be creating the conditions that elected President Hillary Clinton. As the leader of your party your actions define that party. You have successfully defined the party of Reagan and Goldwater as a party of fiscal irresponsibility, cronyism, bungled military operations and big government. If I had wanted that I’d have voted for another Kennedy.

You and the Republican controlled congress have alienated the fiscal conservatives in favor of appealing to the left-wing voters of this nation. Perhaps Karl Rove didn’t mention this to you, but the left hates you. You could institute the revolution of Karl Marx and the left will hate you. Stop trying to buy their love with my tax dollars and dance with the people who brought you to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

update: Turns out George Will agrees

From Tech Central Station (link):

How important on a man’s list of values is being right about the theory of the development of species? If you are a biologist, it might matter to you passionately; but if you are a farmer trying to raise your kids to be good people, it will matter far more to you what their basic metaphors about the universe will be.

That is a valid point. However when that kid is sitting in Biology class, they are being taught about how life works not where it came from. In the case of Creationism, Intelligent Design or the The Flying Spaghetti Monster, it is not the study of how life works and therefore should be in a more appropriate venue, like philosophy class – something that would probably be far more useful than the crap that passes for public school curriculum these days.

What amazes me are the people who honestly believe that the Bible is the word of God. I’ve actually heard people say “If the King James Version was good enough for Jesus, its good enough for me”. Beyond the various political machinations involved with the multiple translations of the Gospels from the original Aramaic, Greek or Hebrew into Latin, then in the 1600s into English, what makes people think that what God told us two to five thousand years ago still pertains to modern life? Consider:

You have a small child, perhaps 4 years old. He asks: “Daddy, where do babies come from?”. How do you answer?
“Well son, first a man’s penis get erect, then he sticks it into the woman’s vagina…..” or “They are delivered by storks”?

You’ll probably go with something along the lines of the latter version. Your child is too young to understand the full significances of the truth. As they get older you will (hopefully) teach them the truth. The Stork is a metaphor.

Now, engage in some blasphemy with me:
You are God. Your creations, the humans, ask “where did we come from?” – now back when humans were first asking God this question, we weren’t much more advanced than the four year old. We thought the world was flat (“Gosh, gee it sure looks it”), had no knowledge of basic chemistry, biology, DNA, or the existence of extinct species. If you were God, which explanation would you offer:
1) “Well you see, there are these microscopic molecules inside each of your cells called Deoxyribonucleic acid. In those molecules are the basic instructions for building your body…”
or
2) “Well, on the 6th day I created you in my image”

God told us a message that was appropriate to our stage of development as a species. God also gave us brains. Big ones. Brains big enough to figure out that the Earth actually revolves around the Sun, that if you mix green and yellow peas 25% of the time you get yellow peas, that there are microscopic molecules inside each of your cells called Deoxyribonucleic acid, and that different species change over time due to changes in their environment.

We don’t need God to tell us that the world wasn’t created in 6 days. He gave us the tools to figure it out ourselves! And I suspect he is quite peeved we are too stubborn not to accept it.

This way of thinking applies to other things God has “told us”. For example, assuming the KJV is the actual word of God, he said:

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Leviticus 20:13.

Now, if you are the benefactor of a tribe of people trying to eek out an existence on a barren plain of land, telling your people to have babies when they have sex makes a lot of sense. There are famines, hostile tribes, disease, and the occasional 40 day flood they have to contend with. You need to keep up the population of the tribe.

Of course some four thousand years latter there are 6.5 billion of us running around, a large portion of those are malnourished, we are making good progress on the disease front, and most of the hostile tribes are making the stuff that goes into our Wal-marts. Perhaps, just perhaps, Leviticus 20:13 doesn’t apply anymore.

But you counter, “God hasn’t told us it doesn’t apply anymore”.

But has he? Just like with God getting us to use our big fat brains to figure out the world wasn’t created in six days, perhaps he doesn’t need to use burning bushes and turning people into salt. We are older now, God can be more subtle.

Perhaps he is sending a message when a prominent conservative politician’s daughter, whom he loves dearly, tells him that she is gay.

All I’m saying is lets keep an open mind about what God wants. He made us smart. He knew what he was getting into. Lets not insult him by remaining the equlivant of that four year old as a species.
