I’ve had bad days before. I’ve had days where I’ve wondered how the f–k I manged to do something so stupid. I pray I never have this day:
A lady went to work at Coliseum Medical Center here in Macon last week and left her baby, her 6 month old, in the car. The baby was found that afternoon dead in her car seat. ….
The problem is that this was a careless act, but it was not intentional. The mother only realized something was wrong when a friend who was suppose to pick her baby up from daycare called to say the baby wasn’t there. The mother got upset quick that something had happened to her child. Only when the police took her to her car did she collapse into convulsions, throwing up, laying in her vomit. Realizing what she had done to her own child. Daylight turned to darkness and Jesus wept. | Peach Pundit

Memo to all Republicans who think that building a wall will solve illegal immigration:
We’ve spent billions of dollars on drug interdiction and drug use has not gone down. As long as there is a supply on one side of the border and demand on the other, goods will flow.
Sure you can build a wall, and the smugglers will dig a tunnel. Fill the tunnels and they’ll come by boat. To paraphrase chaos theory: “commerce will find a way”.
The solution is twofold. First get rid of the quota system and allow anyone to enter the country under a temporary worker visa. Key there is temporary. Give them a biometric id card and put their fingerprints in a national DB.
The second point is that they eventually need to go home. By coming to the US they will learn the advantages of a non-corrupt judicial system. They will learn the virtues of free enterprise. They will earn and save money so when they go home they will make their country better.
As we’ve learned from alcohol prohibition, the drug war, the waves of European immigration in the 19th and early 20th century, government can do very little to stop goods and services from crossing the border. The only way to solve the issue is to make where they are coming from a better place or making where they want to go a worse place. I’m for making the rest of the world better.

Since 1945, Bill Clinton was the only president to have a higher approval rating leaving office then when inaugurated.

Nothing to add, other than I like how economists make stuff up like this.
I would hypothesize that the study time/booze consumption ratio amongst college students has fallen sharply over time. If a student spends 20 hours out of class per week on average studying, preparing papers, etc., and drinks on average the equivalent of 15 cans of beer per week, the ratio would be 1.33 (20 divided by 15). My guess is over the years study time has fallen fairly sharply, while booze consumption has increased. If the average ratio nationally in 1970 was 1.33, I would not be surprised that today it is closer to being less than one-half of that, say .50 (10 hours of studying, 20 cans of beer). SWAT seeking armed man finds no one at home
Domestic dispute had been reported the previous dayThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 07/01/07Gwinnett police on Saturday responded to a report of an armed man threatening his family, but a SWAT unit called to the scene found no one at the residence.
Officers thought a man might have barricaded himself inside a home in Duluth. But, when they got no response after trying to communicate by bullhorn and phone, they entered the home on Forest Knoll Drive and found no one inside.
Friday, police responded to a domestic dispute at the same house, a spokesman said. Arrest warrants were issued for a suspect who fled the area.(

Dick Armey on Newt Gingrich’s appearance on Jim Dobson’s show:
“Personally, I would not have gone on Dobsons show and made a confession of any kind,” says Armey, who counts himself a Gingrich admirer. “My own view of the troubles of the Republican Party is that there have been many times over the years that Republicans have gotten themselves in trouble with the electorate by trying to make the Jim Dobsons of the world happy. But it isnt possible to make Jim Dobson happy. His occupation is not to be happy. Why give him what he will never receive?” (Ever the Speaker - washingtonpost.com)
Republican’s obsession with pandering to evangelicals turns off a large portion of the conservative/libertarian independents. They tolerated it when Republicans were cutting government, taxes and defending the nation. But when the Republicans in Washington increased government spending and screwed up the liberation and rebuilding of Iraq, while spending their time being complete media whores over Terry Schaivo, that middle dropped them like the lying sack of …. they were.
